PHOTOS: Derby Falls Short In State Baseball Championship

Hold your heads high, Derby!

A dream season for the Derby High School baseball team fell a bit short Saturday, as the Red Raiders lost to Cromwell 12 – 4 in the Class S state championship game.

It just wasn’t Derby’s day, as evidenced by the game’s six errors.

The Red Raiders finish the season 23 – 4 — the most wins ever for a Derby baseball team, the Electronic Valley points out.

Story continues after the Dave Choate photo gallery:

Mark Jafee of the Rep-Am has a great story on the newspaper’s website about Saturday’s loss, with some wise-beyond-his-years quotes from sophomore Sal Frosceno.

We had something very special, something I know I will never forget, being only a sophomore. My teammates taught me about motivation and teamwork and to fight until the final pitch,” Frosceno tells the paper.
