A fire caused by a short in an electrical fixture displaced residents of three apartments in a Shelton house Sunday night.
There were no injuries.
Firefighters were dispatched to the house, at 154 – 156 Prospect Ave., about 8:15 p.m. after a resident of the third floor reported smoke inside his bathroom, and a second floor resident heard crackling in the ceiling after changing a light bulb.
They made it out of the house safely before firefighters arrived.
Shelton Fire Department Assistant Chief Paul Wilson said at the scene that crews found smoke coming from the third floor of the home upon arrival, but couldn’t initially locate the fire itself.
As additional manpower arrived — crews from the Echo Hose Hook and Ladder, White Hills, and Pine Rock fire companies responded to the scene — they discovered the fire in the ceiling of the second floor and put it out.
“They just opened up the ceiling and the walls really good and they extinguished the fire,” Wilson said.

The home’s construction made it a potential headache, Wilson said.
“With a balloon frame dwelling as this one, it could be very difficult,” he said. “Typically you do a lot of chasing of fires in the walls. The guys did a great a job and contained it. It was relatively a quick knockdown.”
Fire Marshal James Tortora said firefighters found the blaze “just in time.”
Tortora said a short inside the light fixture in the second floor caused the fire.
Emergency personnel were clear of the scene by about 10 p.m.
