DERBY — Police are investigating a fatal car wreck that happened Sunday morning.

Police said the crash happened at about 11:14 a.m. on Roosevelt Drive (Route 34) near Cullen’s Hill Road.

The preliminary investigation shows that a sedan traveling west heading toward Seymour crossed into the opposite lane, collided with a SUV heading east, then burst into flames.

The driver of the sedan that crossed the lane was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle that was struck was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

As of 1:15 p.m. police were trying to determine the identity of the person killed.
