Man Charged In Shelton Burglary Could Be Linked To Others

Shelton police are trying to link a man charged Sept. 8 with breaking into a River Road business with other recent commercial burglaries in the area.

In a prepared statement, Detective Richard Bango the Rita’s Italian Ice business at 783 River Road was broken into about 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

Officers went to the business when a burglar alarm went off and found the front door damaged and a safe missing.

Surveillance video showed the burglar driving a dark BMW 3 series, Bango said.

Later Thursday, Stratford police stopped the BMW, which was being driven by 48-year-old Steven Carloto.

Carloto had coin rolls from Rita’s and burglar tools in the vehicle at the time,” Bango said.

Stratford cops took Carloto into custody on an unrelated arrest warrant, and Shelton police charged Carloto with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree larceny, second-degree criminal mischief, and possession of burglar tools.

Police said Carloto could be linked to other recent business break-ins.

Carloto is a suspect in other commercial burglaries in Shelton and surrounding towns,” Bango said. More arrests are expected in the future.”

Carloto is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 7.
