ANSONIA – A city resident was sentenced to five years in federal prison for distributing fentanyl and cocaine, after a woman who purchased drugs from him died of an overdose.
Josue Muniz, 35, was sentenced July 24 in Hartford for possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl and an unspecified amount of cocaine.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Stamford Police Department and federal DEA agents opened an investigation into Muniz in 2024.
A 32-year-old woman who purchased drugs from Muniz died of an overdose, police learned. Investigators organized a series of undercover drug purchases from Muniz between November and December 2024.
On Dec. 20, 2024, after arranging a narcotics purchase, officers arrested Muniz at a Milford car dealership where he was employed. Muniz had about 58 grams of fentanyl on him when arrested. Investigators found more fentanyl, as well as crack cocaine, after searching his vehicle and home in Ansonia.
Muniz pleaded guilty to the drug possession charge on April 9, according to federal prosecutors.
