VFW Post 12084 and the Seymour Public Schools are seeking submissions from students in a Memorial Day poster and essay contest.
All Seymour students can enter posters that reflect their thoughts of Memorial Day and the veterans who served. Local businesses have agreed to support the project by displaying the posters in their storefronts during the week prior to the Memorial Day Parade.
Patrons of these businesses will be invited to vote on the poster which best reflects the theme “What Memorial Day means to me.” These votes will be used to select winning designs and honorable mentions.
All citizens are invited to tour downtown Seymour to view student artwork and to help select their favorite posters. All work submitted must be 8.5 by 11 inches and must be turned in to the student’s respective schools by May 7, 2015. Additional information is available through the school’s principal’s office.
Essay Contest
In addition to the poster contest, there will be an essay contest with the same theme, open to Seymour students in fifth through 12th grades. Entries for the essay contest can be handwritten or typed and will not have a word limit.
