No Injuries Reported After Seymour House Fire

Firefighters at the scene Thursday morning.

There were no injuries reported after a house fire in Seymour Thursday morning.

Seymour emergency personnel responded to a report of a possible structure” fire at about 7 a.m.

The address is 13 Patton Ave., off Colony Road and Route115.

The first police and firefighters on scene saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the front, right side of the one-story house.

Units got here, started a primary search right away,” Seymour Fire Department Assistant Chief Al Rochelle said.

We confirmed there was no one inside. PD (police department) got hold of the son of the owner and he confirmed that his dad was not in the house,” Rochelle said.

The fire’s cause and origin is under investigation by the Seymour Fire Marshal’s Office.

Seymour Fire Marshal Paul Wetowitz, left, surveys the scene.

The older resident, whose name was not available, is the only person who lives in the house. He was on his way to the scene as of 8 a.m.

Rochelle said the floor in the home’s front room collapsed, creating a challenge for firefighters.

The floor is gone, which hampered our overhaul efforts, so we are going to be on scene for awhile,” he said.

Firefighters cut holes in the roof to vent the fire. The basement sustained fire damage, too.

The three-bedroom, ranch-style house was built in 1964.

In addition to a full response from Seymour’s volunteer fire companies, Oxford firefighters responded to the scene.

Firefighters from Beacon Falls and Oxford were also sent to Seymour firehouses to cover any other emergency calls in town.
