The State Bond Commission Friday (July 25) approved funding for two Seymour projects totaling almost $7 million.
Commissioners approved $1.8 million that will be used to build a new artificial turf field and bleachers at Seymour High School.
“The new turf field will provide a great playing surface for athletes for years to come,” according to a prepared statement from state Rep. Theresa Conroy. “Seymour High School sports are an important part of the quilt that makes our community special. This is truly an investment in the fabric of Seymour.”
The funding will also ensure the new bleachers are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The Bond Commission also approved a $4.95 million low-interest loan to Migani O’Reardon Architects for the construction of 26 affordable senior housing units at 38 Columbus St.
The loan has payments deferred for the first 15 years of the 40-year term, according to Conroy.
“This is the second phase of the project right in the heart of downtown Seymour,” Conroy said in a press release. “Seymour is committed to being a livable community for all its residents. Residents will have the option of walking to stores, restaurants and other services.”
Conroy said she advocated for the project to the commissioner of the state Department of Housing, Evonne Klein.
