Seymour Man Seriously Injured After Being Hit By Car

SEYMOUR PD PHOTOA 54-year old Seymour man was badly hurt after being hit by a car on Route 67 in front of Webster Bank Friday.

The man’s name was not released. He had serious injuries, according to a statement from police, and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

The accident happened at 6:43 p.m.

The man was pushing a grocery cart while walking on Route 67, police said. He was hit as he tried to cross the road.

Investigators are looking into the lighting in the area, the clothing the pedestrian was wearing or if the narrowing of the roadways due to accumulated ice and snow played a role in the accident,” Seymour Police Deputy Chief Paul Satkowski said.

A 63-year-old Seymour man was driving the vehicle that struck the man. 

The driver’s name was not released.

The operator of the vehicle was not injured but was visibly shaken by the incident,” police said.

Police said the victim often used the cart to help him walk and to carry personal items. Although his name was not released, readers on the Valley Indy Facebook page said he is often seen traversing Seymour with the cart. They sent prayers and well wishes to the man.

Police did not say whether any tickets or any other enforcement action was taken. 

The accident is under investigation and police are asking anyone with information to call 203 – 881-7600.
