Shelton Fire Department Weekly Calls

Shelton Fire Marshal James Tortora submitted the following summary of the Shelton Volunteer Fire Department’s calls from the last week.

On 01/15/18 at 7:10 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a public service call at #2 Waterford Drive. A ladder truck responded.

On 01/15/18 at 7:32 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to the area of Beards Saw Mill Road and far Mill Crossing for a damaged fire hydrant. One unit responded.

On 01/16/18 at 6:02 am the White Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #4 Ridgefield Drive for possible smoke in the house. Upon arrival firefighters found no smoke or fire. Two engines responded.

On 01/16/18 at 9:34 am the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the Tutor Time Day Care Center at #708 Bridgeport Avenue for an odor of natural gas in the building. Upon arrival firefighters found the children safely evacuated. An odor of gas in a part of the building was found to be from a furnace on the building’s roof. Firefighters shut the unit off and cleared the building for occupancy. Two engines, a rescue truck and a ladder truck responded.

On 01/16/18 at 7:15 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to an open burning incident in the rear of #15 Spoke Drive. An engine responded.

On 01/16/18 at 9:54 pm the Huntington Co. #3, White Hills Co. #5 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a chimney fire at #62 Fawn Hill Road. A clogged chimney on a wood burning stove caught fire but was extinguished by firefighters. Two engines, two rescue trucks and one ladder truck responded.

On 01/17/18 at 8:13 am the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Booth Hill Road near Waverly Road. An engine responded.

On 01/17/18 at 6:40 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #10 Overlook Terrace to assist EMS with a patient. A utility truck responded.

On 01/17/18 at 9:38 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to an odor of burning in a unit at the Birmingham Condos at #145 Canal Street. Two engines and a ladder truck responded.

On 01/18/18 at 5:05 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to wires burning on a utility pole on Princeton Drive. An engine responded.

On 01/19/18 at 7:50 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the rear of #560 River Road for an animal rescue. Firefighters responded and found a deer had fallen thru thin ice on the Housatonic River and succumbed as a result. Firefighters removed the deer from the water. Two rescue trucks and a utility truck responded.

On 01/19/18 at 11:20 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Bridgeport Avenue near Cots Street. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/19/18 at 12:23 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a public service call lockout in the parking lot at #862 Bridgeport Avenue. A rescue truck responded but was cancelled en route. 

On 01/19/18 at 1:17 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Anco Engineering Company at #217 Long Hill Cross Road. A small fire on the roof caused by construction set off the alarm. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 01/19/18 at 1:40 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to #9 Prospect Street for a fire alarm sounding. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. An engine and a rescue truck responded.

On 01/19/18 at 8:09 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #2 Brentley Drive for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. A faulty detector was the cause. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/19/18 at 10:52 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to the Howe Avenue and Cornell Street for an odor of gas in the area. Firefighters checked the area and surrounding streets but found no odor. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/20/18 at 10:01 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to #104 Woodlawn park to assist EMS with entry to a home. An engine responded.

On 01/21/19 at 3:12 am the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #67 Timberlane Drive for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. A faulty detector was the cause. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/21/19 at 6:51 am the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the Gardner Heights Hospital at #172 Rocky Rest Road for a public service call. Firefighters assisted pumping water from a basement. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/21/18 at 9:55 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #26 Mayflower Lane for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. A furnace problem caused the alarm. An engine responded. 

On 01/21/18 at 2:10 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #352 Green Rock for a public service call, lockout. A rescue truck responded.

On 01/21/18 at 5:19 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #103 Lane Street to assist EMS with a patient. An engine responded.

On 01/22/18 at 00:46 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #189 Howe Avenue for public service call. A broken water pipe caused the call for assistance in shutting down the water supply. An engine responded.

On 01/22/18 at 5:16 am a duty chief responded to #23 Great Oak Road for an odor in the home.
