Crisco And Logan: In Their Own Words

The state’s Republicans have marked this year’s election for the 17th Senate District as one of their races to watch” in the GOPs bid to take back the majority in Hartford.

And their Republican nominee, water company executive George Logan, has been on the attack against 12-term incumbent Democrat Joseph Crisco since declaring his candidacy.

If Crisco — who brushed aside a spirited challenge by Ansonia Alderman Phil Tripp in 2014 — is concerned about it, he isn’t letting on.

Election Day is Nov. 8.

The Campaign

Logan has been campaigning throughout the district since announcing his candidacy in spring.

During an podcast interview with the Valley Indy, Logan repeated the main thrust of his attack on Crisco — that the incumbent is too closely aligned with Democratic Gov. Dannel Malloy, who recent polls have found to be unpopular with residents.

He also blasted Crisco for refusing to debate him.

Crisco also stopped by the Valley Indy’s office to record a podcast — his first ever.

He said he doesn’t need to debate his opponent because he has a proven record of service to the state and the district.

He also predicted Malloy’s popularity will rebound after deals to keep jobs at Sikorsky, Pratt & Whitney, and Electric Boat.

The race has also attracted the attention of long time WTNH political reporter Mark Davis, who profiled the campaign.

Endorsements, Op-Eds

In August Logan weighed in against the concept of a mileage tax.

He’s also received the endorsement of the Independent Party.

And here’s a press release criticizing Crisco’s debate refusal.

Crisco has also condemned the idea of a mileage tax.

He’s also spoken out against proposed insurance rate hikes and even testified personally against a proposal by UI to increase electricity rates.

And here’s a press release in which he details his support for the deal to keep Sikorsky in Connecticut.
