Auditor: School Board Fund May Become Problem

by Ethan Fry | Feb 11, 2012 7:49 am | Comments (0)

A fund set up by the Board of Education last summer with leftover money from a self-insurance program could lead to confusion if not addressed, an auditor told the Board of Aldermen Thursday.

David Cappelletti, of Woodbridge-based Levitsky and Berney, PC, who raised the issue while reviewing an audit of the city’s funds, said that while the Board of Education acted within its own rules to set up the reserve account, which currently has $212,000 in it, he recommended that the city’s aldermen “at least consent” to what the school board did.

Mohegan Bus No Longer Stops In Ansonia Or Shelton

by Eugene Driscoll | Feb 7, 2012 1:54 pm | Comments (2)

A bus line that took people from Ansonia and Shelton to the Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville has been canceled.

DATTCO, a transportation company that provided the buses, announced it was eliminating the lower Valley stops Jan. 30.

“They’re not coming to Ansonia or Shelton. The Valley run is gone,” said Rose Marie Spatafore of E-Z Travel on Kingston Drive.

She had lobbied DATTCO for several years to provide the bus service from Ansonia to Uncasville.

The bus line’s Ansonia stop outside Spatafore’s business launched in August 2010 with much hoopla, but it just never caught on locally, Spatafore said.

Call him Shelton’s own Ron Swanson.

Swanson, a character from the NBC show “Parks and Recreation,” has achieved cult popularity as, among other things, a baffling contradiction in terms — a vehemently anti-government government official — one might think could only spring from the laptop of a seasoned sitcom writer.
