The Derby-Shelton Rotary Club held its 2nd Annual Steak and Lobster Bake Saturday to raise money to build a pavilion to honor deceased Shelton resident and lawmaker, Richard Belden.
The fundraiser occurred under white tents between 3pm to 7pm at the Shelton Riverwalk located at 44 Canal St. Shelton.
Belden, who died Aug. 20, 2007, was the Connecticut Deputy Republican Leader-at-Large and had a long history of public service in the Valley.
According to the Rotary President, David Grant Sr., nearly 300 people attended the fundraiser filling twenty tables and bringing in $7,500.
“We will be providing $100,000 toward the pavilion and will try to raise more proceeds toward it again at Shelton Day on the first Sunday in October.”
The steak and lobster event is coordinated by 2008 – 2009 Rotary Club President Linda Holmes-Hannon. The event raised $6,000 in its first year towards the cost of building the pavilion, which will seat 75 to 100 people.
“We come every year,” said state Rep. Jason Perillo, R‑Shelton. “What they have planned is outstanding. The Rotary does a lot for the community and when they get funding in place to build this pavilion, it will add so much to the Valley and downtown Shelton.”
