A head-on crash on Route 34 just after the Derby-Shelton fireworks display sent three people to the hospital Thursday night.
The crash happened in the area of the Dew Drop Inn and the Yale Boathouse at about 9:45 p.m., according to Thomas Lenart, Jr., assistant chief of the Storm Engine Co.
A call seeking additional information was placed Friday morning to the Derby Police Department.
The cars involved included a Chevrolet Impala and a SUV, possibly a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Emergency personnel had to use the “jaws of life” to free the Impala’s trapped driver. He was semi-conscious and was taken to Bridgeport Hospital.
Two women inside the SUV suffered minor injuries and were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
The road was closed for about an hour after the crash. Names of the people involved have not been released.
