Seymour police are telling residents to be vigilant after a rash of home burglaries.

There were more than 10 burglaries in town in the past three months — including three on Tuesday alone.

The thieves are targeting cash and jewelry — and some electronics.

Lt. Paul Satkowski said Seymour residents should turn on any home alarms and secure their valuables in the home.

And, Satkowski said in a press release, they should watch out for anything suspicious, such as unfamiliar cars in the neighborhood.

Don’t be afraid to call us, no matter how minor it may seem,” Satkowski said.

Neighbors should also be good neighbors and therefore should watch out for each other,” Satkowski wrote in the press release.

The burglaries are happening during the day time, Satkowski said, while residents are at work or running errands.

Satkowski said the department is investigating and has a person of interest” in the string of burglaries, but no arrests have been made.

In Seymour, Satkowski said burglaries have happened on the following streets:

  • South Main Street
  • Maple Street
  • Skokorat Street
  • Great Oak Ridge Way
  • Willow Street
  • Bellevue Terrace
  • Great Hill Road
  • North Benham Road
  • Falcon Drive
  • Bungay Road

Some streets had more than one burglary, according to Satkowski.

Seymour is also working with other departments in the Valley, which have seen similar burglaries happening in their towns.

In Ansonia Wednesday, a homeowner on North Main Street witnessed a burglar leave her home with her brother’s X‑Box in hand. The woman wasn’t in the house during the burglary, but was in the neighborhood and witnessed a man walking out the front door.

The homeowner wasn’t hurt, according to Ansonia Police Lt. Andrew Cota.

The burglar appeared to have climbed in an unlocked window, Cota said.

Anyone who sees something suspicious should call police.
