Kathryn Morales, age 90, of Huntington, entered into rest on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Mozaic Senior Life in Bridgeport. She was the devoted wife of 57 years to the late John Morales. Kathryn was born in Jersey City, NJ on March 8, 1936, daughter of the late Jacob and Margaret (Metz) Rutz. She graduated Salutatorian from Emerson High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and a cheerleader. Kathryn graduated with distinction as the top science student from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry. Kathryn and John met in Freshman Chemistry and married in 1961.
Kathryn was a Chemist for General Foods in Tarrytown, NY, notably working on the drink Tang and Jello products. She and her family moved to Huntington over 50 years ago, and she began teaching as a substitute teacher in the Shelton School system. She later became a Chemistry teacher at Shelton High School, teaching AP Chemistry, was Coach to the Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientists (JETS) team and co-founder of the science fair program at Shelton High School. Cheering was part of Kathryn’s DNA and remained so throughout her life cheering on Kathleen, her Students, her grandchildren and the UCONN Huskies Basketball teams.
She is the beloved mother of Kathleen Davis and her husband Bjorn, cherished grandmother of Kaitlin Mownn (Rob), Connor Davis (Kara), and Kristoffer Davis, and proud great-grandmother of Evelyn Grace Mownn. She was predeceased by a grandchild, Kristian Davis.
Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Sunday from 1 to 4 PM. On Monday friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM directly at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton.. Interment will follow at Huntington Lawn Cemetery.
