James R. Butler, the candidate whose middle initial was incorrectly listed on the Nov. 8 ballot, was named chairman of the Derby tax board Monday.
Derby Democrats accidentally listed Butler on the election ballot as James J. Butler — his son.
The snafu caused James J. Butler to be elected and to be sworn in as a member of the tax board Jan. 3.
However, James J. resigned a few days later and his father was appointed to the tax board by Democratic members of the Derby Board of Aldermen.
Monday (Dec. 19) was the first meeting of the new tax board. Democrat Anita Dugatto, who had been named chairman Jan. 3, resigned so that Butler’s name could be offered as a replacement.
Tax board members then voted — unanimously — to elect James R. Butler as their chairman, according to information posted on Clearly Derby, a new Facebook page.
