Sean J. Bashura, age 49, a lifelong resident of Derby and a graduate of Derby High School class of 1995, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, at Yale New Haven Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.
Born in Derby on September 19, 1976, he was the beloved son of Patricia O’Neill of Derby and George Bashura Jr. (Lynne) of Seymour. Sean lived a life defined by loyalty to his family, friends, community, and the things he loved most. In his professional life, he was a devoted employee of St. Lawrence Parish in Shelton, where he worked on the parish grounds and facilities with dedication and pride. Though he may have jokingly complained about winter storms, everyone knew he secretly loved driving the pickup with the plow, clearing snow from the parking lots in preparation for the next day Masses.
Sean resided with and was deeply devoted to his mother, Patricia, sharing a close and supportive bond that was a constant in his life. He was also a proud and dedicated longtime member of the Storm Engine Company #2 and the Storm Engine Company Ambulance Corps in Derby, where he served his community with commitment and brotherhood. Sean was an avid fan of NASCAR, especially the Earnhardt teams, and a diehard fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. Whether it was race day, game day, or a quiet afternoon at home, Sean found joy in the energy and camaraderie of sports. He also loved grilling and barbecuing for family gatherings and sharing simple, meaningful moments with his loving girlfriend, Aimee Williams of Derby, and their beloved dog, Taco, who rarely left his side. Sean’s warmth, humor, generosity, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will continue to live on in every life he touched
Sean and his family were blessed by the exceptional care he received from many compassionate professionals. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Sylvia Kurz, neuro-oncologist at Smilow Cancer Center at Yale New Haven Hospital, Emily Kopas, APRN of North East Medical Group, and Colleen and Kayla of Valley Pharmacy in Derby, whose extraordinary service, concern, and “pillow packing” support made an immeasurable difference in Sean’s daily life. The family also wishes to express its deep appreciation to Reverend Ciprian Bejan of St. Lawrence Parish for his spiritual leadership, heartfelt friendship, and unwavering support during these challenging times. Finally, and with profound gratitude, the family acknowledges the devoted care, love, and steadfast presence of their extended family at Storm Engine Company #2 and the Storm Engine Ambulance Corps, whose support for Sean has been a source of strength and solace.
