Seymour Bank Robbery Suspect Wanted By The FBI

The FBI in New Haven is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the whereabouts and arrest of a man suspected of robbing a bank in Seymour.

Daniel W. Hamlett, Sr. is wanted for armed bank robbery, along with aiding and abetting, according to the FBI.

Anyone with information should call FBI Special Agent Lisa MacNamara at 203 996‑4132.

On April 9, 2013 about 3 p.m., the FBI alleges Hamlett pulled into a handicapped parking space outside the Webster Bank at 15 New Haven Road.

A customer leaving the bank walked by Hamlett’s vehicle and noticed he was wearing a mask. That customer kept walking, got into his own vehicle, and locked the door.

But Hamlett walked toward the customer, took out a black handgun and smashed the man’s driver’s side front window, according to the FBI.

He then demanded money.

When the customer responded that he didn’t have any money, Hamlett, Sr. took the customer’s car keys and cell phone and told him not to move,” according to the FBI.

Hamlett then went into the bank, where he yelled for everyone to get on the ground, the FBI said.

He jumped over the bank counter, grabbed a teller and ordered her to open a money drawer, which he emptied — taking along a dye pack.

He then allegedly made his way out of the bank.

Meanwhile, the customer outside in his car had run into a neighboring business and called the cops.

Hamlett was seen leaving the bank and getting into a vehicle — possibly a teal Ford Taurus, with the last three digits of the license plate reading YHC.”

It was last seen heading north on Route 8.

The robbery touched off an intense search in the Naugatuck Valley, as demonstrated by the emergency radio clips below.

A federal arrest warrant was issued for Hamlett Sr. on March 13, 2014.

He is considered armed and dangerous.
