Seymour Bank Robbed

Police are looking for a man who pulled out a gun, ordered everyone to the ground and robbed the Webster Bank on New Haven Road just before noon on Saturday.

The suspect jumped over the teller’s counter and emptied cash from a drawer into a shopping bag. Police did not say how much money he stole.

The suspect is described as a black male, about six-feet, two-inches tall. He was wearing a dark-colored jacket, blue jeans and ski mask that partially covered his face. He wore white gloves into the bank.

Police learned of the robbery through a 911 call from a bank customer who overheard the commotion through the intercom while at the bank’s drive-through window.

Simultaneously, another call was received from a bank employee also reporting the robbery in progress,” according to a written statement distributed by Seymour police.

Article continues after surveillance photos distributed by police:

The suspect managed to elude capture by getting into a car driven by an accomplice who had been waiting on Spruce Street behind the bank.

The vehicle is described as an older model (mid to late 90’s), dark-colored, four-door Cadillac Deville or Fleetwood-style model.

The Seymour Police Department received assistance from an agent from the New Haven FBI Office as well as state police, who sent several troopers to the area to assist in the search.
