Seymour Fire Marshal: Forest Fire Danger Level Is High

The spring forest fire season has begun in Connecticut. Today the Forest Fire Danger Level is listed as high.

This indicates that if a fire is to occur it is likely to spread between 16 to 29 times its own size in one hour. This, factored in with the wind and lack of precipitation, can lead to a fast growing and rapidly spreading fire.

Although your community may allow open burning with a permit, the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection does attach restrictions to it when the fire danger reaches a rating of high. It is recommended that all open burning be stopped at this point.

Please think clearly and act responsibly when dealing with potential sources of fire.

And if a fire is spotted, please dial 911 and calmly report when and where you saw the fire.
