James Roger Stratton Sr., 85, of Seymour, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family.
Roger was born on December 31, 1940, in Louisa, Kentucky, the son of the late Albert and
Launa Booth Stratton. He was proud of where he came from and carried his Kentucky roots with him throughout his life. He was honored to be named a Kentucky Colonel in 1972; a distinction that reflected the kind of man he was.
Roger proudly served his country in the United States Army, including an overseas assignment stationed in Germany. After his military service, he built a long and successful career as Engineering Manager for Bayer Corporation. He was respected for his knowledge, leadership, and unwavering work ethic.
Above all else, Roger was a family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ester
Stratton, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. He was a devoted father to James R. Stratton Jr. and his wife Teresa, and Kristine Burns and her husband Kevin.
Roger took great pride in his grandchildren, Nicole Stratton; Melissa and her husband Major Len Moffa; Victoria and her husband Kyle Barach; Danielle and her husband DJ Johnson; and Trevor Burns, and cherished his role as great-grandfather to Trent Raffaele and Carter Barach.
Roger was steady, kind, and dependable—a man who didn’t need many words to show his love. His strength, integrity, and quiet presence shaped his family and will continue to be felt for generations.
