With much anticipation and excitement, The Valley Arts Council celebrated the opening of their new Valley Center for the Arts at 119 Caroline Street in Derby last earlier this month.

Community members from ages 5 to 75 signed up for art classes and took part in art making activities.

Local artists who were interested in renting studio space and teaching classes toured the center and discovered what opportunities are available to them.

Council members who are painters, mask makers and collage artists demonstrated their skills and answered questions.

Valley state representatives and local leaders visited to discuss how they could help the Center serve their constituents including the addition of the sprinkler system that is necessary to have children’s classes at the Center.

Art teachers from local schools were on hand to brainstorm about the elementary after school arts program that the Center for the Arts has proposed.

As Richard D’Carlo, President of the Valley Arts Council stated, “the open house was well received. We were visited by state dignitaries, Foundation heads and representatives from other Art Councils. We also made several major art sales and gained many new members!”

Valley community members who are interested in any of the activities taking place at the Center for the Arts or in becoming a member of the Council of the Arts may email Richard D’Carlo at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or go to the Council web site at www.valleyartscouncil.org.
