Stay Tuned! Oxford Dems Have A First Selectman Candidate

Oxford Democrats have a candidate in mind for First Selectman, but they’re not quite ready to say who it is.

Carol Georgette, chairwoman of the town’s Democratic Committee, issued a press release Tuesday morning saying her party has a candidate.

They plan to unveil the candidate next weekend, Georgette’s message indicates.

We will present the person who we believe is the best of the best as our next Oxford’s First Selectman,” Georgette said. Your families and friends are also welcomed. Please stay tuned as more details will follow next week.”

The candidate will be looking to fill the shoes of First Selectwoman MaryAnn Drayton-Rogers, a Democrat who has opted not to seek a third term in Town Hall.

Republican George Temple has already announced that he’ll be running for the office. He’s the only candidate to have filed paperwork, according to the Town Clerk’s office.

Oxford Republicans, by the way, are whispering that Georgette is the candidate.

I’ve heard that, too. It’s even gotten back to me,” Georgette said. Who are they running? They haven’t endorsed anyone.”

The Valley Indy ran about five names by Georgette as to who the Dems are running, including Selectman David McKane and town committee member Maura Satkowski.

She wouldn’t budge.

I’m not going to tell you,” she said. You’re going to have to stay tuned.”

The where and when will probably come through a second press release to be released next week.

Why not just make the announcement now?

We’re just trying to nail down the logistics (as to where the announcement will be made). We want to make sure everything is rock solid,” Georgette said.

As of March, there were 2,520 registered Republicans in Oxford, 1,501 Democrats — and 4,215 unaffiliated voters.

Formal nominations usually happen later in the summer.
