Campaign finance disclosures filed last week show incumbent First Selectwoman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers and the Democrats raised about $20,000 for their re-election.

David Haversat, the Republican candidate for First Selectman, raised $7,355, while the Oxford Town Republican Town Committee raised $6,129.79.

Those numbers were current as of Oct. 13, the date the latest round of campaign finance disclosures were due.

The Republican committee filed another report Wednesday showing an additional $5,250.65 raised as of Oct. 20.

The Oct. 13 filings, which includes the names of individual donors, are available at the end of this article.

The Oxford Democratic Town Committee spent $11,786.51, which includes more than $4,000 on campaign literature such as signs and brochures.

“Haversat Yish 09” spent $4,611.72, while the Republican committee spent an additional $4,768.91 as of Oct. 13.

Biggest Democratic Contributors

Drayton-Rogers does not have her own re-election committee, but is relying on her Democratic Town Committee for campaign cash.

Her biggest individual donor is Anthony D’Souza, who lists himself as a builder from Shelton. He donated $1,000 to the Oxford Democrats.

The next biggest donor is Drayton-Rogers, who donated $572 to the Democrats. Donors who gave $500 to the Democratic cause include resident Robert Rzeszutek, town tax collector Karen Guillet and John Rogers, Drayton-Rogers’ husband.

Drayton-Rogers said her campaign is in a good position financially and expects it to remain strong standing on a solid two-year record of flat taxes and economic growth.

Haversat’s Contributors

Haversat’s biggest supporters include Ed Carver, who donated $550. Carver and his wife formed “Keep Oxford Green,” a political action committee which is causing controversy among Democrats in town.

Haversat’s single largest individual donor is Tony Montanaro, an Oxford resident who works as an engineer with Verizon. He has contributed $640.

Haversat has also contributed $150 to his own campaign.

“People are energized and I am excited and happy with the results,” Haversat said of his fundraising results.

Haversat said he is confident in his chances to win the town’s top seat based in his previous terms on the board of Selectmen from 2003 to 2006.

Keep Oxford Green

Keep Oxford Green, formed to lobby against high-density housing of any kind in town, raised $1,084.53 and spent $244.53 as of Oct. 13.

Its five contributors were Patty Palmer, a Town of Oxford secretary who is married to former First Selectman August Palmer ($300), Earl Marks ($40), Tanya Carver ($112.03), Ed Carver ($132.50) and Jay Hard of Oxford ($500).

Of the 8,193 registered voters in Oxford, 2,461 are Republicans and 1,493 are Democrats.

There are 4,239 unaffiliated voters in town.

Election Day is Nov. 3.

  1. Doesn’t anyone wonder why a builder from Shelton would want to contribute more than anyone else to an election in Oxford? Drayton-Rogers largest contributor does not even live in Oxford but he can make a boat load of money if the plan for affordable housing goes through.

  2. Just a point of information to MR.appy. I believe the builder you are writing about is going to be responsible for building a medical center along Route 67 opposite Oxford Hardware. So before you begin maligning this individual you should start thinking about the good a medical center would do for all of us.
I believe the town needs the medical services his center would provide

  3. Who is Dave’s largest contributor, Ed Carver, who started Keep Oxford Green and who is actually behind Keep Oxford Green, Augie Palmer!!!

So, it shows you that no matter where you go, what you do, or who you are, you will always find Augie Palmer. This is the EXACT REASON why Oxford cannot afford to elect Haversat, because Augie Palmer is pulling the strings and we cannot afford to go backwards!!!

  4. Funny, CrazyinOxford Must be Dave McKane because he can’t read. Article said the following: “Haversat’s single largest individual donor is Tony Montanaro, an Oxford resident who works as an engineer with Verizon. He has contributed $640.” Carver contributed $500. CrazyinOxford Can’t add either! Oh Great, another developer getting special treatment from the Oxford Democratic Party, no wonder they have signs all over that property. I understand they also want to place high density housing behind that property. Now the piece are coming together.

  5. Oxforddemocrat that is just as bad. This is a conflict of interest. Donating to the re-election campaign of the people who would be approving your permits etc.

  6. Looking at the Keep Oxford Green paperwork is quite revealing!

    – Started by Augie Palmer’s Boss
    – 1st peron to contribute is Patty Palmer
    – In 2 months, ONLY had 6 contributors, 3 of which were Palmer or Carver, and a 4th which was a website by none other then Joe Asbury.

Sounds like a great movement to me!

  7. Mr. Happy you should go back and look at all of the contributors for Mr. Palmer’s election and re-election in the past. There was a developer in Oxford who was one of his biggest contributors, but of course that wasn’t a conflict of interest? This developer is building a medical center and donating acreage to Oxford for a new library behind the medical center which First Selectman Drayton-Rogers and Selectman McKane have been very transparent about. I think there was an article about it in the Voices some time ago.

  8. For the benefit of residents who actually might be interested in a few facts that reflect reality, I offer the following for consideration. I don’t expect that Mr. Happy will be happy about them or that I will change any of the minds that insist on denigrating and disrespecting people that want to make investments in our town, however I offer the following for the consideration of reasonable people that might be interested in my professional opinion and the facts that support it.

Dr. D’Sousa is a cardiologist operating a practice in Oxford – there are residents in Oxford that will tell you he has extended their lives. He is affiliated with Griffin Hospital and interested in bringing Griffin medical services to our town. Only the uninformed would argue that we are underserved in medical services in Oxford. We have no imaging, testing, walk in medical or specialties to speak of and this Doctor, who has bought property on Oxford Road across from Oxford Paint and Hardware and has an investment group of other doctors and professionals, has presented site plans for a four building campus that will provide floor space for those services.

There will be four buildings – a full service medical building, two mixed use buildings with commercial services on the first floor and medical office facilities on the second floor to house additional medical offices and specialists.

The property is currently being rezoned so that Dr. D’Sousa can donate the back 5 acres to the town to site a new library in a location that has already been approved by the library building committee.

During this campaign some members of this blog and the general tone of the RTC campaign attack has been to question the motives of developers and investors and town officials and my public service efforts insinuating that developers are “profiting” handsomely at the expense of the town.

They seem to think that our land owners, developers, realtors and investors should not be engaged and encouraged to develop their properties and make their investments in Oxford.

I would ask residents to consider the following questions without regard to the current political cycle.

If the public servants that currently have the responsibility of advancing economic development in Oxford cannot talk to our Investors, landowners, businessmen, developers and realtors about Oxford opportunities, who should they be talking to?

Is it not obvious to reasonable people not blinded by their political hormones, that the town benefits from their investment and that our discussions facilitate cooperation that might actually build something that the town needs, in a fashion acceptable to the residents that live here while providing needed services profitably?

  9. Your right I am not happy with the smoke and mirrors. Why does the paperwork submitted by John Roger (Mr. MaryAnn) indicate he is a builder? This sounds like it something the State Elections Commission might want to hear about. Especially if the donation came at the same time as the re-zoning application.

  10. The only “Smoke and Mirrors” going on is that David Haversat and Augie Palmer are once again trying to confuse the public about development in Oxford. They spearheaded a group called Keep Oxford Green to spread lies and this group has now been reported to the SEEC. Listen to their last robocall, they never told the listener who they were or who was paying for the ad, therefore it was an unsolicited phone call, meaning it violated the Do Not Call list. Just think how many people they did it to and the fact that for each phone call, there is a HEAVY monetary fine! Seems to me, this group will be having some tough times ahead!

  11. A special thank you to Mr. Schuler for taking the time to make people understand the importance of the medical center being planned.
Trying to convince Mr.Happy though is a useless and time consuming waste of time. Talk about being blinded by politics! He’s a perfect example.
Hopefully some therapist or psychiatrist will occupy some of the space in the medical building.
Mr.Happy might find that their services useful and in the end find something positive about this planned facility.

  12. To Mr.Happy-your probably a sweet and wonderful guy. Maybe a few months from now we can all meet amicably and enjoy a few laughs together.
But honestly I’ve been re-reading some of your posts on this site and your really don’t make much sense. I suggest you do a little more research and then sit down and make yourself a little more coherent. Sorry I don’t mean to be insulting. But really some of your thoughts are a little strange.

  13. Oxforddemocrat,
I do not find your comments insulting at all but I am sure anyone who has ever had the pain of a family member with psychiatric issues may find you post a bit hurtful.
You sound like just the type of person I am glad that I do not make sense to.
