John Tagg, Sir, age 92 of Edwards St, Shelton, entered into rest on Monday, April 26, 2010 in his home with his loving family and wife of 62 years, Elva Ahlgren Tagg, by his side.

“May the Good Lord be with you”; and the Lord surely was with John Tagg throughout his life.

Mr. Tagg was born in “the Hollow” in Bridgeport, September 30, 1917, son of the late Albert and Florence Porter Tagg, and has been a resident of Shelton for over 45 years.

He is the beloved father of John Tagg, Jr.;( Sue), Elva Karpenko;( Randy), Judy Angelicola; (Jack Creevy), Donald Tagg, Frederick Tagg (Kim), Katie Zielinski (Bill), Christopher Tagg and Timothy Tagg.

He also leaves 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by three brothers, Albert, William and Frederick Tagg, six sisters, Nellie Struber, Ann Garber, Edith Leko, Elizabeth Esposito, Emily Kubovic and Florence Booth, his son-in-law Peter Reilly, a grandson Jared Tagg and great grandson Jared Weidig.

He retired in 1979 as a clerk for the Bridgeport Hydraulic Company after being employed for over 33 years where he never lost a day’s pay, of which he was extremely proud.

John was a decorated veteran of World War Two. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart with the First Oak Leaf Cluster from action on the Villa Verde Trail on 29 March 1945 on the Philippine Islands. He was also a recipient of the Bronze Star for “Heroism in Ground Combat”; on 9 April 1945.

After the war, John joined various veterans’ organizations, currently a member of the VFW Post 1236, as Past Commander and a member of the American Legion Post 16 in Shelton. He also served as Parade Marshall for the Derby-Shelton Memorial Day Parade.

John enjoyed playing horseshoes throughout his life and was a past member of the Valley Horseshoe League. He enjoyed having a beer at the end of the day with his family. His family shared many good memories with John, Dad, Pop; but not just any memories but the best memories. We love you and always will.

Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd, Shelton was entrusted with his funeral arrangements that were held on Friday May 7, 2010 in St. Joseph’s Church Shelton.
