On Wednesday, June 23 at Mingrone Field, the Grasshoppers defeated the BlueClaws 15-0 to capture the Shelton National Little League AA Championship title.
The team of 7- and 8-year-olds finished the regular season against seven other teams with a record of 9-1-2 before moving on to the single-elimination playoff tournament. With a playoff record of 3-0, the Grasshoppers swatted the Sandgnats 11-3, then bested the Bats 10-6 on their way to the Championship.
Tony Schiavo, manager of the Grasshoppers, extended his championship record to 2-0 having also managed last year’s AA Mets team to a title victory.
