The city has reinstated its School Building Commission to address failing roofs at Ansonia schools.
The Board of Aldermen Tuesday approved 12 appointments to the committee.
Commissioners come from the Board of Education, Board of Aldermen and Tax Board, as well as citizens.
Mayor James T. Della Volpe said the commission will start meeting soon to discuss the condition of leaky roofs at Prendergast, Mead and Ansonia Middle schools, as well as the Board of Education district office.
Della Volpe said Prendergast’s roof is in “dire” condition.
“I think it’s important this commission starts to meet and act on these roofs,” Della Volpe said.
The leaky roofs have been discussed at several past Board of Education and Board of Aldermen meetings.
In November, Robert Evans, the district’s director of facilities, said the leaks have been patched as they arise, for six years.
Evans, who was also named to the commission, last month said the district has tested the schools and found no mold problems — yet.
School board members have said a more permanent fix needs to happen soon, or the district can face more costs trying to fix the problem later.
