A Seymour teenager who was badly injured after he was accidentally shot in the head with a pellet gun Dec. 18 is recovering as the investigation continues.
The 13-year-old boy, who was not identified by police, has improved, said Lt. Paul Satkowski, spokesman for the department.
“From what I hear through second party information the boy is doing better and has shown improvement with his recovery,” Satkowski said Tuesday.
It was not clear if the boy is still at Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was brought with life threatening injuries at the time.
The shooting happened as the boy was with two friends at at Brookfield Road home about 7:45 p.m.
The three began “play wrestling” and accidentally knocked over a high-powered, rifle-type pellet gun leaning against a wall, according to a written statement released by police.
When one of the teens picked up the loaded pellet gun, it accidentally discharged and hit the 13-year-old victim in the side of the head, Satkowski said.
The pellet gun is powered by a CO2 cartridge and shoots metal pellets.
The police department believes the incident was an accident, but is still investigating. The three teens are friends and adults were home at the time of the incident, Satkowski said.
