The concept is similar to the sex offender registry, but unlike the sex offender registry Sen. Majority Leader Martin Looney said his proposed gun offender registry won’t be available to the public, just law enforcement.
Looney told the legislature’s Public Safety Committee Thursday that the idea was suggested to him by New Haven Police Chief Frank Limon.

And this will do what to reduce crime? Be honest. What will this to do actually reduce crime?
I have a better idea – how about a POLITICIAN registry, instead.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but we already have a police gun registry. Every time their guns are fired, it has to be recorded, ballistics have to be taken to ensure accuracy, etc. I’m no friend of politicians or the police, but let’s keep things on focus here and not get into unrelated agendas.
The focus should be on another poorly maintained “registry” when the other registry we have – the sex offender’s register – is a nightmare of slippery slopes. I think I counted over half of the people on the Valley’s register as being… I forget the *exact* law, but basically, it was older teenagers having sex with younger teenagers. That’s a high school senior doing it with a freshman, and the younger’s parents got pissed. Now, the kid’s life is ruined.
Is that what we want? Would this registry apply to people that don’t have the proper paperwork? Where would it stop? Would it keep people who haven’t fired a shot from getting a job? We need to think about these things instead of going off in different directions.
Sharpeye, I agree that we must do our best. That’s why we have to keep the proverbial fire to the brimstone. We keep that up, and we’ll get results, in all aspects of life.
