Connecticut had its first glimpse at Gov. Dannel Malloy’s new budget Tuesday. The spending plan — to be formally unveiled Wednesday — includes one of the largest tax increases in state history.

Here’s a guide to the governor’s new spending plan.

THE FACTS:

CT News Junkie: As for tax increases Occhiogrosso said, “everybody is being asked to do a little bit more.”

CT Mirror: The sales tax rate would change for the first time in 20 years, from 6 percent to 6.25 percent, and it would be applied to now-exempt items such as pet grooming, hair cuts, car washes, boat services, non-prescription drugs and cosmetic surgery. Taxes also would rise on tobacco, alcohol and luxury goods.

CT News Junkie: Unions will be asked to sacrifice $2 billion.

THE OPPOSITION

CT GOP honcho Chris Healy: Historic tax hike shows Malloy’s failed vision.

  1. What did u expect from a Dem.

Same old story…tax and spend……….folks this has to end soon…before we lose our country.

    Just say no

  2. How does Gov. Malloy expect anyone to afford to live? It is very difficult now, without all the tax increases he is pushing. The way I see it, this will hurt folks in our state even more. Increased sales tax and charging sales tax on items such as clothing under $50 may actually keep people from spending, in turn making stores lose business, having to lay off more employees. Smooth move Malloy.

  3. Well, a one term Governor for sure.

Time for the people to vote in someone who is not a career politician and get an average person who has common sense.
