ANSONIA – Rubin Little, who brought 30 years of financial advisor experience with him when he joined the faculty of Ansonia Public Schools, passed away overnight. He was 59 years old.
Little had taught business and financial literacy at Ansonia Middle School since 2019. Before that, he worked as a financial advisor with American Express for decades.
Ansonia Public Schools announced Mr. Little’s passing in a message sent out on the morning of Dec. 17.
Little grew up in New Haven and had a long, diverse career. After working as a State Trooper, he became an accountant at Yale in the Department of Pediatrics. He then taught at Career Technical High School in New Haven for a year.
Then, a job offer from American Express kickstarted his years in financial advising, during which he became a franchise owner – but he always wanted to return to the schools.
“It derailed me,” Little said in 2020 of that career switch. “But I always toyed with the idea of finishing my working years in a classroom.”
After Mr. Little joined Ansonia Middle School, he secured a $15,000 grant to fund a financial literacy program there, and the rest was history.

“It is with great sadness and sorrow that Ansonia Public Schools share with you the sudden and tragic news that we received this morning.
Shortly before the start of the school day today, Principal Colaccino received information that one of our teachers at Ansonia Middle School, Rubin Little, passed away overnight.
We realize this is sudden and overwhelming news. Support staff from all of our schools are assisting the students and staff process and work through this difficult time. We will continue to monitor and provide counseling support as needed.
We ask everyone to keep Mr. Little and his family in our thoughts and prayers.”
