DERBY — In recognition of extraordinary courage, skill, and dedication, emergency medical professionals from across the region were honored last night at the EMS Week Awards Ceremony, hosted by Storm Ambulance & Rescue Corps at their headquarters.
The annual event celebrated the outstanding achievements EMTs and Rescue Technicians, and first responders who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in serving their communities.
More than a dozen EMS professionals were recognized for life-saving interventions, acts of heroism, leadership, and longstanding service.
“Today, we honor the silent heroes who respond to our greatest moments of need,” said Thomas Lenart, who opened the ceremony. “Their commitment to excellence, compassion, and resilience embodies the very best of public service.”
Food was served by the Firehouse Pizza Restaurant of Shelton.
A proclamation from the City of Derby was read by Board of Alderman President George Kurtyka to commemorate the work of the EMS responders.
Outstanding Call of the Year: **Unit Citation was awarded to the Marine Division, the Rescue Division and the EMS division to recognize their work rescuing a 62-year-old man who became trapped in flood waters on */18/2024.
Awards were given for the top 5 active members.
The ceremony also highlighted the importance of mental health support, continuous training, and cross-agency collaboration in building a resilient EMS system.
