Kazimierz “Casey” Brejwo, a lifelong resident of Derby, entered eternal rest on May 16, 2025, at the age of 75, at Griffin Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of 51 years to JoAnn Giamario Brejwo.
Born in Poznań, Poland, on September 8, 1949, he was the son of the late Antoni and Helena Bujko Brejwo. Casey and his family emigrated to Ansonia in 1962. He graduated from Ansonia High School and went on to serve honorably in the United States Air Force, stationed at Royal Air Force (RAF) Mildenhall in England from 1968 to 1972.
After returning to the United States, Casey built a beautiful life with his one true love and best friend, JoAnn.
Together, they made their home in Derby and raised two children, Marysia and Casey, of whom he was incredibly proud. Casey worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Orange for 32 years until his retirement in 2005. He truly loved his work—connecting with his customers, spending time outdoors, and foraging for mushrooms along his route.
A devout communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia for many years, Casey served as an usher and took pride in his involvement in many community organizations.
He was an active member of the Polish Falcons of America, Ansonia Nest 36, where he served as financial secretary and bartender and was honored with their highest Legion of Honor medal.
He was a member of both the Ansonia and Derby Senior Centers.
A proud veteran, he was a life member of the VFW Post 597 in Ansonia, where he served as quartermaster for over 20 years, and most recently of VFW Post 201 in Waterbury. He was also a dedicated member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), having served as Valley Commander in Ansonia and later as a member of the Milford chapter, as well as a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1562 in Derby.
Casey cherished time with his family—especially his grandchildren—by the pool in their backyard, fondly known as “Brejwo Paradise.”
He enjoyed gardening and pickling his harvest, grilling up a feast, traveling, family vacations, visiting the beach, and attending concerts, fueled by his love for music.
A true sportsman, he was an avid swimmer at the YMCAs in Ansonia and Orange and the Shelton Community Center, a passionate fisherman who eagerly awaited opening day each year, and a youth soccer coach, a passion he shared with his brother, Ray.
In addition to his wife JoAnn, Casey leaves behind his daughter, Marysia A. Walker (Charles “Rich”) of Shelton; his son, Casey A. Brejwo (Stacey) of Ansonia; and two grandchildren, Addison and Amelia Brejwo.
He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Maria Brejwo of Ansonia, Patricia Panaroni (Geno) of Branford, and Marie Dawson (Patrick “Yogi”) of South Carolina; his brother-in-law, Douglas Day of Seymour; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Romuald “Ray” Brejwo, and his sister, Krystyna Day.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia.
On Thursday morning, all are invited to attend his funeral by meeting directly at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Church, 32 Jewett Street in Ansonia, for his Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment with United States Air Force military honors will immediately follow in Mount Saint Peter Mausoleum in Derby.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Casey’s memory may be made to the DAV Chapter 15, PO Box 3006, Milford, CT 06460, or to Addison & Amelia Brejwo for their College Fund, 5 Lindgren Terrace, Ansonia, CT 06401
