SEYMOUR – Here are some highlights from the Seymour Police Department’s calls for service from July 28, 2025 through Aug. 3, 2025.

It is a partial list of calls, curated by The Valley Indy. The goal is to give the public a head’s up on what’s happening in the community.

Note: generally, this publication does not post the names of people charged with misdemeanors; the names of victims; or numbered residential addresses. If we publish a suspect’s name, we track the case.

Seymour police received 281 calls for service and made five arrests between July 28, 2025 and Aug. 3, 2025.

JULY 28, 2025

11:21 a.m. A Walnut Street resident told police someone stole a $17 bag of cat litter outside his apartment door.

11:31 a.m. Police responded to a medical emergency at a residence on Maple Street.

12:40 p.m. A Frances Drive resident told police his $800 gun safe was vandalized.

4:09 p.m. A Rennay Road resident told police he received a fraudulent call requesting him to send money in a shoe box. Police said the call was a scam and advised the resident to monitor his bank account and credit cards.

4:38 p.m. Police received a complaint about someone parked in front of a fire hydrant in the Stop & Shop parking lot on Franklin Street.

JULY 29, 2025

11:52 a.m. Police issued an infraction to a driver on Maple Street.

12:11 p.m. Police received a complaint about a dog barking inside a car in the Stop & Shop parking lot on Franklin Street. Police spoke with the dog’s owner who said they were returning bottles at the store, and the car windows were open and there was a bowl of water inside the car for the dog.

12:22 p.m. Police responded to a medical emergency at a residence on Willow Street.

2:06 p.m. A man on Nichols Street told police he was receiving harassing phone messages.

2:39 p.m. An individual told police he found a wallet in the Starbucks parking lot on West Street. The person tried to contact the owner through Facebook, but to no avail.

4:30 p.m. Police were contacted about a manhole on Mountain Road near Deerfield Drive that had no cover on it. A patrol officer pushed the cover back into place.

8:10 p.m. Police were called about a cat that was run over in front of Valley Burger Shack on South Main Street.

9:38 p.m. Police assisted Ansonia Police for a report of a large crowd or possible fight on Howard Avenue in Ansonia.

JULY 30, 2025

12:28 a.m. Police received a complaint about a car parked at the Seymour Community Center near the skate park on Pine Street after hours. Police advised the individuals to leave.

12:36 a.m. Police were notified by Woodbridge police about a car driving erratically heading into Seymour.

12:36 a.m. Police charged a 41-year-old Seymour man illegally operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs and failure to drive on the right.

12:48 p.m. Police received a complaint about a woman walking around topless near Derby Avenue and Route 8. Police checked the area and said the woman was gone upon their arrival.

12:59 p.m. Police responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Main Street.

5:37 p.m. Police issued a verbal warning to a driver on Maple Street.

JULY 31, 2025

6:52 a.m. Several 911 calls were received by police about a motor vehicle rollover on Route 8.

11:15 a.m. Police issued an infraction to a driver at the intersection of Maple Street and Old Ansonia Road.

11:48 a.m. A Balance Rock Road resident told police someone in a silver Hyundai SUV was taking large items out of his vehicle and dumping them into the apartment complex’s dumpster. Police advised the man that he was not allowed to use the dumpster and there were no further issues.

4:09 p.m. Police set up radar enforcement for about 25 minutes at the intersection of Moss Avenue and South Main Street and made no motor vehicle stops.

8:40 p.m. A Molsick Road resident told police a man was sitting on a curb near his house in the rain, wearing no shirt. The resident called police back and said the man was running down the road. Police said the man was gone upon their arrival. The resident called police a third time to say the man was back sitting on the curb. An officer spoke with the man who said he had just gone through a break-up and was upset and went for a walk. The man went home without further issue.

9:00 p.m. Police charged a 24-year-old Seymour man with disorderly conduct and second-degree threatening.

AUGUST 1, 2025

12:10 a.m. Police conducted a routine safety check of Seymour Middle School on Mountain Road.

7:08 a.m. A Walter Road resident told police the rear window of his car had been smashed out, but nothing was reported stolen.

7:12 a.m. Police received a report of a dead deer in the road near New Haven Road (Route 67) and the Route 8 north entrance ramp.

8:17 a.m. Police responded to the scene of a minor motor vehicle accident in the parking of the Sunoco gas station on New Haven Road (Route 67).

9:48 a.m. A caller reported that someone stole some items from the Woodland Package Store in Klarides Village.

4:07 p.m. A Pearl Street resident told police her vehicle was broken into.

5:58 p.m. Police received a call about a cat that was hit by a car on West Church Street. An officer brought the injured cat to the police department and notified animal control.

AUGUST 2, 2025

12:41 a.m. Police conducted a routine safety check of French Memorial Park on Spruce Street.

3:38 a.m. Police observed a vehicle circling the area of Pearl and Elm streets. Police said the driver was delivering newspapers.

10:55 a.m. A South Main Street resident told police while she was moving out of her residence, her mother stole some of her items, including her Social Security card.

12:43 a.m. A resident told police he saw someone driving a blue Dodge dump two mattresses on Southwest Road. An officer contacted the driver and was told to retrieve the mattresses.

3:37 p.m. Police set up radar enforcement for about 25 minutes at the intersection of Maple Street and Warren Drive and issued one infraction.

6:45 p.m. Police charged a 45-year-old Greenwich woman with first-degree criminal trespass.

8:30 p.m. A caller reported a low hanging wire on Botsford Road.

AUGUST 3, 2025

1:30 a.m. Police charged a 32-year-old Seymour man with risk of injury to a child and disorderly conduct.

12:03 p.m. A Peach Drive resident told police her neighbor frequently speeds up and down his driveway to the rear of his property, and also peels out of the driveway onto Peach Drive leaving skid marks. The resident also said the neighbor gives her the finger when she is gardening and yells obscenities every time he drives by the house. An officer made contact with the man about the complaints. The man told the officer he didn’t know what he was talking about. The officer advised the man that enforcement action could be taken in the future if the complaints persist and the man told police he understood.

12:19 p.m. Police responded to a medical emergency at a residence on Greenwood Circle.

1:13 p.m. A Briarwood Drive resident told police her neighbor was playing music so loud that it was making the windows on her home vibrate.

3:56 p.m. Police set up radar enforcement for about 30 minutes on Holbrook Road and made no traffic stops.

4:48 p.m. A resident of Smithfield Gardens assisted living facility on Smith Street told police he was being threatened by another resident. An officer spoke with both parties and said nothing criminal occurred and there were no further issues.

6:16 p.m. A South Main Street resident told police said someone was using her electricity to plug in their cell phone.

7:00 p.m. Police made an extradition arrest of a 55-year-old New Haven man. Police said he was wanted on an active warrant in Massachusetts.
