DERBY — A resident posted a video to Facebook on Aug. 25 showing a car burglar in action on Hawthorne Avenue.
The video shows a white, four-door sedan with a sunroof stop in front of her house near Roseland Apizza at 6:07 a.m. on Monday.
After a few seconds, a male exits the white vehicle from the rear door on the driver’s side and runs across Hawthorne Avenue into the woman’s driveway. The burglar then opens the passenger side door of the property owner’s vehicle. The suspect is in the vehicle for about eight seconds before bailing as a car alarm sounds. He runs back across Hawthorne to the white sedan, which speeds away.
The white sedan was last seen heading west on Hawthorne.
The owner said she thought she had locked the vehicle’s doors, and noted that the other doors were locked. There have been media reports elsewhere of thieves using cloned key fobs to break into locked vehicles.
The owner, in a Facebook comment thread, said the vehicle’s alarm went off, which spooked the burglar.
Anyone with information on the crime should call police at (203) 735-1511.
