SEYMOUR – Officials said there were no injuries after a house fire on Great Hill Road Thursday (Sept. 4).

Firefighters were called to 84 Great Hill Road at 8:06 a.m., according to Seymour Fire Marshal Timm Willis.

Two people were inside the house but were able to get out after hearing their smoke alarm.

The fire was in the basement and is thought to have been accidental, caused by a mechanical issue with a water heater, Willis said.

The fire was contained to the basement area, according to Willis, but there was smoke damage throughout.

Willis estimated some $200,000 to $250,000 in damage. He said the home is uninhabitable.

It took about 15 minutes to extinguish. Willis said the Oxford Fire Department was on the scene to assist with a tanker truck.

The 3,633-square-foot house at 84 Great Hill Rd. is a single-family, two-story wood home, according to town land records. It was built in 1998.
