SEYMOUR — The fire marshal is investigating the cause and origin of a fire Sunday that badly damaged a pizzeria and closed a neighboring business Sunday (Sept. 7).

There were no injuries reported.

Firefighters were sent to Hot Grill & Pizza at 59 New Haven Ave. at 7:40 a.m., according to a statement from the fire department.

“The first arriving unit confirmed a fire inside the business that had extended into the attic. Firefighters forced entry into the building and conducted an aggressive interior attack, bringing the fire under control,” according to the statement.

The restaurant sustained significant damage and smoke damage will leave Seymour Garden, a neighboring business, closed for the time being, according to the statement.

The businesses were closed at the time of the incident.
