Scott Andrews was recently appointed to the Seymour Board of Selectpersons.

SEYMOUR – The former executive director of Seymour Ambulance Association and past Seymour Fire Department Chief Scott Andrews was appointed to the Seymour Board of Selectpersons on Aug. 19.

Andrews’ appointment was unanimously approved by the Selectpersons at a meeting on that date.

Andrews fills a vacancy left by Pat Lombardi, who resigned from the seat Aug. 5.

The seat had to be filled by a member of the same political party. Lombardi was a Republican, as is Andrews.

“I think Scott is a fine choice for the position,” said Selectman Fred Stanek, a Democrat.

Andrews has a long track record of community service.

A Seymour native, Andrews served as the executive director of the ambulance service from 2005 through 2015. He was fire department chief from 2007 to 2009, was a former deputy fire marshal, and was a past president of Valley Emergency Medical Services’ Board of Directors.

He also served on the Seymour Board of Fire Commissioners, and has been an active volunteer firefighter with Citizens Engine Co. since the early 1980s.

After stepping away from the ambulance association in 2015, Andrews said he and wife Robin moved to Maine and bought a small hotel in Freeport, a town they enjoyed staying at while on vacation.

“We ran the hotel for seven years. It was interesting,” Andrews said. “We got through COVID, and we planned to do a 10-year stint there.”

Andrews opted to sell the business and move back to his hometown.

“I’m hoping to give back to the town and do the right things for the people in the town, that’s all I want to do,” he said about his appointment.

Andrews is already on the ballot for the Seymour Board of Selectpersons election, scheduled for Nov. 4.

Lombardi, 75, who served the town for more than 25 years under three different administrations, said he stepped down to spend more time with his family.
