DERBY — Organized purse snatchers have been targeting the Big Y Plaza at 656 New Haven Ave., police said Wednesday (Sept. 17).
The department said they’ve received reports of several purse thefts in the parking lot while shoppers were loading groceries. A precise number of incidents was not mentioned in a social media post.
“Our investigations show the suspects are arriving in stolen vehicles and wearing full face masks,” according to the statement.
Police then listed precautions people should take:
* Lock your car – always secure your vehicle, even for quick stops.
* Hide your valuables – keep purses, backpacks, and other items out of sight.
* Stay alert – pay attention to your surroundings, especially in parking lots and public areas.
* Report suspicious activity – note the location, suspect description, and direction of travel, then call the Derby Police Department immediately.
