DERBY — Following the overwhelming success of last year’s debut event, the Derby Neck Library is excited to announce “Murder in the Library: Bookshelves & Bootleggers”, its second annual Murder Mystery Dinner Theater Fundraiser. The event is set for Friday, October 24 at 5:00 PM.
This immersive, adults-only evening will transport guests back to the Roaring Twenties, where flappers, gangsters, and hidden secrets await. Participants will travel back in time with us to 1925, view a short film to introduce the characters and set the stage for our mystery, and enjoy a delicious catered meal. But watch out! Rumor has it that an illegal speakeasy is hidden in the library, and that’s the kind of secret some people might kill for.
Guests will enjoy a fully catered meal courtesy of Wellingtons Restaurant of Shelton as they work to untangle the mystery.
Tickets are $40 per person and must be purchased in advance either in person at the Derby Neck Library circulation desk, or online via the Givebutter page.
Doors open at 5:00 PM, with a strict cut-off for entry at 5:30 PM to ensure an uninterrupted viewing of the opening film.
If you find yourself getting stumped by all the twists and turns this mystery takes, don’t worry. We’ve taken our cue from Jay Gatsby himself, and we’ll be selling exclusive hints in sealed envelopes for $5 each. At the end of the night, guests will submit their best guess for the culprit. Those who guess correctly will be entered into a raffle drawing for a special prize.
For those unable to attend but still wishing to support the library, donations can also be made through the Givebutter page, or local businesses may choose to purchase advertising space in the event program.
The Derby Neck Library is a privately-funded 501(c)3 non-profit organization located at 307 Hawthorne Ave in Derby. For more information about this event and other programs, please contact the Derby Neck Library at (203) 734-1492 or visit derbynecklibrary.org.
