DERBY — Police said a 34-year-old man was driving drunk while in possession of a loaded firearm.

Nasir Gibson, of Waterbury, was charged Oct. 24 with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a large-capacity magazine, having a weapon in a motor vehicle, and driving under the influence.

According to a Facebook post from Derby police, Gibson was pulled over on Derby Avenue for motor vehicle violations. The time of the stop was not included in the post.

“During the stop, Gibson displayed signs of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. After failing standard field sobriety tests, he was placed under arrest for DUI,” according to the police statement.The subsequent investigation allegedly uncovered the weapon, according to the statement.

Gibson was also charged with failing to display license plates, failing to have insurance, and operating an unregistered vehicle.

He is in custody on a $150,000 bond and is next due in court Dec. 2.
