DERBY — Police said Monday they know who left a dead dog in a bag on Sixth Street.

“Investigators of the Derby Police Detective Bureau have identified, located, and obtained a confession from the suspect. Detectives will continue gathering evidence and pursue a warrant for the suspect’s arrest,” according to an email from Derby Police Department Deputy Chief Brian Grogan.

The suspect has not been named because charges have not been filed.

Police responded to Sixth Street near Elizabeth Street at about 2 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 15) after a citizen spotted a dead dog wrapped in a black bag on the sidewalk against a building, police said. Click here for a previous story.

Police believe the dog was left there on Nov. 14. They described the dog as a tan male French Bulldog mix. It was emaciated, police said.

Desmond’s Army, a group that advocates for abused or neglected animals, paid for an autopsy on the dog that was scheduled to be performed today (Nov. 17). That information could inform the police investigation as to how the dog died and its condition prior to death.
