Russell Machnicz, age 100 of Seymour, beloved husband of the late Eugenia “Jean” Dounouk Machnicz, died peacefully in the comfort of his home on December 31, 2025.
Born in Ansonia on March 3, 1925, he was the son of the late Andrew and Anna Hudak Machnicz. Mr. Machnicz was raised in Ansonia and was a proud U.S. Army Veteran of WWII serving overseas in the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign in China, India and Burma (CBI).
Following his military service, Mr. Machnicz earned his bachelor’s degree from New York University and worked as an Advertising and Marketing Executive for the Seagram’s/Calvert Distillery for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1990.
He was a lifelong member of Three Saints Orthodox Church of Ansonia, the David S. Miles Post, American Legion, Oxford and the Veteran of Foreign War, Post 12084, Seymour. Mr. Machnicz was an avid golfer in his younger years and enjoyed reading.
He will be long remembered as the patriarch of the family, a loving and dedicated father and grandfather. He is survived by his devoted sons, Gregory Machnicz and his wife Laura of Fairfield, Andrew Machnicz of Woodbury and Stephen Machnicz, Sr. and his wife Marietta of Seymour; 12 cherished grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his spouse, Mr. Machnicz was predeceased by a sister, Helen Casner and brothers, Dimitro and Walter Machnicz.
Family and friends may call on Monday, January 5, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 10:30 AM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.
