Ana Susana Salazar, age 68, beloved wife of Wilfrido Salazar of Ansonia, died peacefully on January 10, 2026 at Griffin Hospital with her family by her side. Born in Ambato, Ecuador on November 24, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Vincente Ruiz and Beatriz Chicaiza.
Mrs. Salazar was raised in Ecuador and graduated from business school, earning her associates degree. She immigrated to the United States in 1979 and settled in Chicago, IL, before moving to Ansonia in 1997. She was the family matriarch, affectionately known to all as “Mama Mia”, always caring for others and sacrificing her own needs for the benefit of others. She was a talented cook whose epic ceviche and llapingachos dishes were a family favorite at every gathering. Mrs. Salazar enjoyed manicures and pedicures with her girls, watching foreign films, K- Dramas and Bollywood movies.
In addition to her spouse of 48 years, she is survived by her devoted children, Sandy Salazar and her husband, George Senises of FL and Wilfrido Salazar, Jr. of Naugatuck; god-daughter, Maya Baca of New Haven; sisters, Cecelia Espinosa and her husband, Guillermo of Ansonia, Lupe Ruiz of Ecuador, Carmen Hildalgo and her husband, Hector of NY and Marta Ruiz of Ecuador; cherished grandchildren, Miguel Garcia Salazar of FL, Annette Marie Salazar of Hamden, Mia Michelle Salazar of Ansonia, Samantha Torres of New Haven, Leah Isabela Baca and Emma Adele Baca, both of New Haven; great-granddaughter, Aviana Figueroa of Hamden; as well as several nieces and nephews including, Clara Mena, Mery Cardenas, Patrick and Fabian Espinosa.
Mrs. Salazar was predeceased by a nephew, Marco Espinosa.
Family and friends may call on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia.
Funeral services will take place from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday,
January 17, 2026 at 9:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM
in St. Mary Church of the Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Parish, 212 Elizabeth Street,
Derby. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.
