DERBY: Wesley G. Plaveck, age 83, entered eternal rest on January 14, 2026, at Griffin Hospital in Derby. He was the beloved husband of fifty-seven years to Patricia (Peterson) Plaveck.
Born in Bridgeport on November 9, 1942, he was the son of the late Walter and Nellie Molchan Plaveck. He was raised in Trumbull and a graduate of Trumbull High School Class of 1962 before moving to Derby for the past forty years.
Wesley was employed at the former McClinch Crane Service in Bridgeport for thirteen years and later worked as an assembler and laser operator for Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford for twenty-six years until his retirement.
He also ran a part-time landscaping and snow removal business.
A proud veteran, Wesley honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corp during Vietnam, earning the rank of Sergeant.
While serving, Wesley traveled all over the Mediterranean and the Caribbean, and he was also an Amtrac Crew Chief and a rifle expert three years in a row. Wesley was an avid pheasant hunter with his beloved Brittany Spaniel, Rambo. He was a handy man who could fix almost anything but especially enjoyed fixing and working on cars. His favorite hobby was growing his vegetable garden and sharing his bounty with others.
In addition to his wife Patricia, Wesley leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Wayne W. Plaveck of Milford and Wesley Plaveck of Old Lyme, brother, Richard Plaveck, sister-in-law, Linda Peterson of Bridgeport along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers-in-law, David and Donald Peterson.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Tuesday morning, January 20, 2026, from 9:00-11:00 am in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 11:00 am a funeral service in celebration of Wesley’s life will take place with Reverend Jeffery Gubbiotti officiating.
Burial with full United States Marine Corp military honors will immediately follow in Mount Saint Peter Cemetery in Derby.
