SEYMOUR – Seymour police on Friday (Jan. 16) identified the driver of a fatal head-on collision that occurred Thursday (Jan. 15) afternoon at the intersection of Roosevelt Drive (Route 34) and Maiden Lane.
Wade Meeker, 51, of Danbury, was found by officers on the scene to be unresponsive with no pulse, according to a press release issued by police Friday morning.
Responding officers found two vehicles involved in a head-on collision, a 2010 Nissan Rogue and a 2015 Dodge Charger.
Meeker was the operator of the Nissan Rogue. Officers immediately began CPR on the scene, the release says. After a prolonged attempt at resuscitation by Seymour Ambulance EMT’s and Valley Emergency Medical Services paramedics, Meeker was ultimately pronounced deceased, according to police.
The other operator, an 18-year-old female whom police did not identify, was conscious and alert and appeared to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries. She was transported to the hospital by Seymour Ambulance.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation. The Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Squad (CARS) is assisting the Seymour Police Department with the investigation.
Seymour police said they were contacted by the Monroe Police Department at 3:27 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 16) that the Nissan Rogue, driven by Meeker, was operating erratically in their town on Route 34. Seymour police were en route to the area to check for the vehicle when the crash was reported, according to the release.
Route 34 was re-opened at 8:25 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 16).
