James P. Vartelas Sr., a 69 year old Ansonia resident, entered into eternal rest Feb 3. He was born Nov. 24, 1956 in Derby, son of the late James J. and Jeanne Barbour Vartelas. A graduate of Ansonia High class of ’74, James captained Ansonia’s baseball team to the state title. James worked for The Ansonia Copper and Brass for 30 years and later for The City of Ansonia. A true sports enthusiast, James was an avid N. Y. Giants fan, and attended Super Bowls and Final Fours.

He leaves to cherish his memory his two beloved sons, James P. Vartelas of Ansonia and Matthew J. Vartelas of Seymour, his sister Judith Vartelas, (Karl) and niece Alyssa & nephew Spencer Hricko, all of New Jersey, and dear friend Nancy Osiecki. He also leaves many cousins who loved him dearly. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother John Vartelas. A Memorial service will be held the day before the Super Bowl, on Saturday Feb. 7 at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia at 12 NOON. Friends may call before the service from 10:00 a.m. until NOON. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
