James William Fowles, age 54, of Ansonia, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, at Griffin Hospital with his family by his side. Born in Bridgeport on October 27, 1971, he was raised in Stratford, where he attended public schools and played in Stratford Little League. While attending David Wooster Intermediate School, he played trumpet in the school band, reflecting a side of him that was disciplined, attentive, and quietly expressive. He graduated in 1989 from Platt Regional Vocational Technical School in Milford, where he studied Machine Tool Technology.

Mr. Fowles worked as a skilled tool and die maker until the time of his illness and was known as an exceptional machinist. Any shop fortunate to have him benefited greatly from his talent, skill, and work ethic. He was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins and enjoyed heavy metal and hard rock music, including artists such as Ozzy Osbourne, Pantera, Slayer, Frank Zappa, and Alice Cooper. He also greatly enjoyed the work of comedian Jim Jefferies. He counted meeting Jim Jefferies after a comedy show, as one of the happiest days of his life!

Those who knew James best understood him as a quiet presence, steady and reserved, yet deeply caring and fiercely protective of the people he loved. He also showed his kindness in quieter ways, including the devoted care he gave for many years to a cat he had taken in, Morty, a bond he rarely acknowledged, or sometimes even denied, but that those close to him readily recognized.

He is survived by his father, Lawrence K. Fowles, Jr. and his wife, Lee Fowles of Stratford and his mother, Sharon Doty and her husband, Richard Doty of Seymour. He is also survived by his beloved companion, Jodilyn Meeker of Ansonia; his sister, Laura L. Fowles of Seymour; and his brother, Lawrence M. Fowles, along with his longtime partner, Cheri Ward of Wallingford. He also leaves behind his nephew, Jonathan Cibulsky; and his nieces, Eva Cibulsky, Emily Fowles, and Elizabeth “Lizzy” Ward.

Funeral services are private. Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia, is in care of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
