The City of Ansonia invites our community to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at the annual Irish Flag Raising Ceremony!

Let’s honor Irish heritage, enjoy a moment of unity, and kick off St. Patrick’s Day with pride and spirit. All are welcome—bring your friends, family, and festive cheer! A special Irish Blessing will be offered on behalf of Assumption Church and School.
Amidst the green, leprechauns, and pints of Guinness, let’s remember that we are celebrating a holiday recognizing how the Irish—once a very marginalized group of refugees—persevered despite discrimination, and how their lived experiences and contributions have shaped our communities both past and present.
Churches built by Irish immigrants, like our Assumption Church, became not only beautiful historic architectural marvels, but also safe spaces where marginalized immigrants could navigate discrimination, foster solidarity and community, preserve their cultural traditions, and make meaningful change.
